About the exhibition

This exhibition traveled from Burghausen, Germany, and is based on the international photo competition "Walk of Water – Water for Peace and Prosperity", launched in 2023/2024 by Onewater gUG in collaboration with the UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme and the City of Burghausen. It was first presented at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on World Water Day, March 22.
Following its debut, a broader selection of over 120 photographs and stories was shown at the Haus der Fotografie in Burghausen, located at the world’s longest castle. Onewater curated and developed the stories further, aligning them with the themes of the United Nations World Water Development Report. The result is a deeply human, global reflection on water challenges—and the solutions.
The exhibition now continues at the Naturschutzzentrum Eriskirch, a nature conservation center on the shores of Lake Constance—an inspiring symbol of cross-border water cooperation between Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Once heavily polluted, the lake has become one of Europe’s cleanest alpine waters thanks to decades of collaboration.
This edition presents 15 powerful photo stories highlighting floods, droughts, pollution, sea-level rise, and water conflict—but also hope, resilience, and innovation. It invites visitors to see the global water crisis through real stories and solutions from around the world.

As one local water official put it: “We still don’t know which country Lake Constance belongs to. But we just sat down with the Swiss and Austrians and started fixing the lake.”

The exhibition is accompanied by educational materials used in the center’s environmental programs, engaging thousands of schoolchildren each year.
